MATER DEI CATHOLIC FALL BALL 2026
Powered by SD Legacy Basketball Club
Preparing for the season. Building chemistry. Raising the standard.
THE STANDARD IS THE STANDARD.
ABOUT FALL BALL
Mater Dei Catholic Fall Ball provides players an opportunity to prepare for the upcoming high school basketball season through additional competitive games, player development, and time together on the court.
OPTIONAL TO JOIN. FULL PARTICIPATION ONCE YOU COMMIT.
Participation in Fall Ball is completely optional.
Fall Ball is being organized and operated as club basketball through SD Legacy Basketball Club. It is not a required Mater Dei Catholic school activity, and participation or non-participation does not guarantee or prevent a player from earning a position on a Mater Dei Catholic Basketball roster during the official high school season.
However, once a player chooses to participate in Fall Ball, our expectation is full participation and communication.
We understand that players have school, family responsibilities, other sports, and commitments. Full participation does not mean that a player can never miss an event. It means we expect players to be accountable, communicate their availability, respond when information is requested, attend the events they commit to, and communicate as early as possible when circumstances change.
WE ARE BUILDING YOUNG MEN
Fall Ball is about more than basketball.
Part of our responsibility as coaches is helping our players develop accountability, responsibility, communication, commitment, and leadership.
For that reason, our primary communication will be directly with the players.
Players are expected to:
• Communicate their own availability.
• Respond to coaches when a response or RSVP is requested.
• Know when and where they are expected to play.
• Communicate conflicts as early as possible.
• Notify the coaching staff themselves when something changes.
• Honor the commitments they make to their teammates and coaches.
Parents will absolutely remain informed, but whenever appropriate, we want the player to be the one communicating with his coaches.
These are habits that extend far beyond basketball.
FALL BALL TEAMS
Players participating in Fall Ball will be organized into three SD Legacy Basketball Club teams:
SD LEGACY - MD BLUE
SD LEGACY - MD GOLD
SD LEGACY - MD WHITE
Throughout Fall Ball communications, these teams may simply be referred to as MD Blue, MD Gold, and MD White.
Fall Ball rosters are designed to maximize development, competitive opportunities, and meaningful game repetitions.
Players may move between MD Blue, MD Gold, and MD White throughout the Fall. Assignments may change based on development, availability, team needs, matchups, event participation, and opportunities to maximize repetitions.
FALL BALL ROSTERS ≠ SEASON ROSTERS
• Playing Fall Ball does not guarantee a roster spot during the Mater Dei Catholic Basketball season.
• Playing on MD Blue, MD Gold, or MD White does not guarantee placement on a particular roster during the official season.
• Fall Ball team assignments are not intended to represent Varsity, JV, or Freshman team selections.
• Fall Ball roster sizes are designed to maximize game repetitions and are not an indication of the size of any official season roster.
Official Mater Dei Catholic Basketball roster selections will be determined separately through the school's normal evaluation and tryout process.
FALL BALL JERSEYS
Players will wear Mater Dei Catholic (MDC) jerseys during Fall Ball competition.
MDC jerseys will be distributed at practice.
Players are responsible for bringing their MDC jersey to every Fall Ball event.
FALL BALL EVENT COSTS
There is no single Fall Ball season fee. Participation and payment will be handled on an event-by-event basis.
LOCAL EVENTS
Local Shootout — $50.00 per player
Local Tournament — $100.00 per player
REGIONAL EVENTS
Regional Shootout — $75.00 per player
Regional Tournament — $150.00 per player

Venmo: @SDSoldiers619
Please include the player's name and event in the payment notes.
FINANCIAL CONCERNS
We want players to have the opportunity to participate whenever possible.
If your family has a financial concern that may prevent your player from participating in an event, please reach out to the Fall Ball Coordinator directly.
Financial concerns will be handled privately.
FALL BALL COMMUNICATION
We will maintain two separate GroupMe groups for Fall Ball.
PLAYER GROUPME
Players Only
This will be our primary Fall Ball communication channel.
Coaches will communicate directly with players regarding:
• Availability and RSVPs
• Rosters and team assignments
• Game schedules
• Arrival times
• Practice information
• Locations
• Schedule changes
• Basketball and playbook information
• Other team responsibilities
Players are expected to monitor the Player GroupMe and respond when requested.

PARENT GROUPME
Parents & Guardians
Parents will have a separate GroupMe to ensure families remain informed regarding Fall Ball schedules, costs, locations, logistics, and important announcements.
The Parent GroupMe is intended to keep families informed, while still allowing our players to take responsibility for communicating directly with their coaches.
Whenever appropriate, we ask parents to encourage their player to communicate directly with the coaching staff rather than communicating on his behalf.
We're not trying to remove parents from the process — we're trying to prepare young men to take ownership of the process.

CRUSADER PLAYBOOK
KNOW THE SYSTEM.
Fall Ball provides an opportunity for players to begin learning and becoming comfortable with the Mater Dei Catholic Basketball system before the official season.
Players should regularly review the online playbook, including our sets, actions, terminology, assignments, and teaching points.
Knowing where to be, what to do, and why we're doing it allows us to play faster, communicate better, and compete together.

Playing time may vary based on attendance, effort, development, team needs, matchups, player availability, event roster size, and coaching decisions.
Our goal when constructing Fall Ball rosters is to provide players with meaningful opportunities to compete and get game repetitions.
PREPARE. COMPETE. COMMUNICATE. REPRESENT.
Fall Ball is another opportunity to get better — as basketball players and as young men.
Be accountable.
Communicate.
Honor your commitments.
Compete for your teammates.
Represent Mater Dei Catholic the right way.
