Participation Waiver & Release of Liability Agreement

San Diego Legacy Basketball Club - Effective Upon Registration

Participation in San Diego Legacy Basketball Club is voluntary.

By registering an athlete, accepting a roster position, paying team fees, attending practices, participating in games, tournaments, camps, clinics, team travel, or any San Diego Legacy Basketball Club activity, the athlete and the athlete's parent or legal guardian acknowledge that they have read, understood, and agree to all terms contained within this Participation Waiver & Release of Liability Agreement.

No separate handwritten signature is required. Acceptance of these terms is a condition of participation in the San Diego Legacy Basketball Club program.

Assumption of Risk

Participation in basketball and related athletic activities involves inherent risks, including but not limited to:

  • Falls

  • Physical contact

  • Collisions

  • Sprains and strains

  • Broken bones

  • Concussions

  • Serious injury

  • Permanent disability

  • Death

The athlete and parent/guardian voluntarily assume all risks associated with participation in any San Diego Legacy Basketball Club activity.

Medical & Health Acknowledgment

The parent or legal guardian represents that the athlete is physically capable of participating in basketball activities.

The parent agrees to disclose any medical conditions, allergies, medications, injuries, physical limitations, or other health concerns that may affect participation.

In the event of an emergency, San Diego Legacy Basketball Club staff may seek emergency medical treatment if a parent or guardian cannot be reached. Any resulting medical expenses remain the responsibility of the parent or guardian.

Release of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the athlete and parent/guardian release and hold harmless San Diego Legacy Basketball Club, its directors, coaches, volunteers, staff, sponsors, tournament operators, facility owners, and affiliated organizations from claims arising out of participation in club activities, except to the extent such claims cannot legally be waived under applicable law. Similar language is commonly used by youth basketball organizations.

Insurance

The parent or legal guardian understands that San DiegoLegacy Basketball Club does not provide personal medical or accident insurance for participating athletes. Each family is responsible for maintaining appropriate health and accident insurance coverage and for all medical expenses resulting from an athlete’s participation.

Families interested in obtaining additional sports-related coverage may review the insurance options offered through the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU).

AAU insurance is completely optional and is not required to participate in San DiegoLegacy Basketball Club. Any decision to purchase additional coverage is made independently by the athlete’s parent or legal guardian. Coverage, eligibility, costs, exclusions, and benefits are determined solely by AAU and its insurance providers.

SD Legacy Basketball Club does not sell, administer, endorse, guarantee, or determine eligibility for AAU insurance and is not responsible for claims, coverage decisions, or benefits provided under any outside insurance policy.

Photography, Video & Media Authorization

By registering with San Diego Legacy Basketball Club, the athlete and parent/legal guardian grant San Diego Legacy Basketball Club the unrestricted right to photograph, record, livestream, and otherwise capture the athlete's name, image, likeness, voice, and participation during practices, games, tournaments, camps, clinics, team meetings, travel, and club events.

These images and recordings may be used, without further notice or compensation, for purposes including:

  • San Diego Legacy Basketball Club website

  • Social media platforms

  • Promotional videos

  • Marketing materials

  • Printed publications

  • Digital advertising

  • Team announcements

  • Sponsor recognition

  • Recruiting and promotional content

  • News and media coverage

The parent/guardian understands that photographs and videos may remain publicly available after publication and waives any right to inspect or approve the finished materials.

Electronic Communications

By registering, parents authorize San Diego Legacy Basketball Club to communicate regarding:

  • Practice schedules

  • Tournament information

  • Team updates

  • Registration reminders

  • Emergency notifications

  • Club announcements

Communication may occur through email, text message, team management applications, or other approved communication platforms.

Code of Conduct

Participation in San Diego Legacy Basketball Club is conditioned upon compliance with the Club's Athlete Code of Conduct and Parent Code of Conduct.

The Club reserves the right to suspend or remove any participant whose conduct is detrimental to the organization or inconsistent with its mission and values.

Agreement

By completing the registration process and participating in San Diego Legacy Basketball Club activities, the athlete and parent/legal guardian acknowledge that they have carefully reviewed this Participation Waiver & Release of Liability Agreement and agree to be bound by its terms and conditions as a condition of participation in the program.
